Tutorial:

Brazilian Microbiome OS on a Virtual Machine

 

Step 1. Download and install Oracle VM VirtualBox (Click here). Additionally you can install VirtualBox Extension Pack. This package is also available on the VirtualBox website.

Step 2. After opening the VirtualBox software, select the “New” option [A]. Name: "BMP" [B]. Type: “Linux”. Version: “Ubuntu (64-bits)”. Click Next.

Step 3. Memory size. The recommended memory size is 2 GB.

Step 4.  Hard disk. Do not change any option on this page. Just click “Create”.

Step 5. Hard disk file type.  Do not change any option on this page. Just click “Next”.

Step 6. Storage on physical hard disk.  Do not change any option on this page. Just click “Next”.

Step 7. File location and size.  Select the size of the BMP OS virtual machine. We recommend at least 30 GB for Illumina MiSeq and Ion Torrent sequencing data. Click “Create”.

Step 8. Load "bmp.iso" file.  On BMP icon [C] click on the right mouse button and select “Settings”.

Step 9. BMP Settings. Click on the “Storage” option. Select Controller: IDE option and click on “Adds optical drive” [D] (DVD icon).

Step 10. BMP Settings. In the next window, click on “Choose disk” and select the bmp.iso file.

Step 11. BMP Settings. After selecting the bmp.iso file, click “ok”.

→ At this stage the Brazilian Microbiome OS Virtual Machine has already been installed. Now click on the BMP icon and click Start [E].
